Fayetteville, North Carolina Alcohol & Drug Rehab
Fayetteville, North Carolina received the dubious distinction of having the 15th highest prescription opioid abuse rate in United States, according to a study by Castlight Health, Inc. When accounting for heroin, Fayetteville ranked 18th in the US. The rate at which prescription drugs have been abused in Fayetteville has increased dramatically. At the same time, those who live in and around Fayetteville including Fort Bragg, do not have sufficient treatment resources when it comes to addressing addiction and substance abuse.
Fayetteville is hit particularly hard for several reasons. Substance abuse issues can affect military personnel particularly hard as they often accompany or are caused by mental health issues such as PTSD or Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. Further, the same ranking study mentioned above found that those living in poor areas are twice as likely to abuse opioids as those who live in more affluent areas.
The trend in heroin and prescription opiate abuse has largely followed nationwide statistics. More people are turning to heroin than ever before as local governments and medical practices start to crack down on prescription opiate abuse.
What is the solution?
Of course, we all strive for abstinence from drugs and consequent prevention of all substance abuse. Fayetteville, for one, has been doing its part, having created an Opioid Abuse & Awareness Task Force in mid-2016. However, for the foreseeable future, we may not see opioid’s grip on Fayetteville or North Carolina loosen by much.
Until such time that we can prevent the spread of addiction, access to appropriate care, effective inpatient treatment and comprehensive support and aftercare are the best options we have. All we can do is assist those suffering from the disease of addiction in keeping sober and relapse free for the rest of their lives.
Since its inception in 1971, Fellowship Hall has strived to be the leader in treatment for drug and alcohol abuse, not only in North Carolina, but throughout the nation. To learn more about making the first that step toward a life of sobriety, we encourage you to contact us.
